I Fired Terry Porter

The Origin: How I fired Terry Porter…

And now, the rest of the story.

That was a shout out to Radio legend and KTAR favorite, the late Paul Harvey. In the spirit of his show, I am now posting the origin story of ifiredterryporter.com.

I was in El Paso watching the Christmas game in the Houghton family home on a 12-inch television by myself in a back room. I love the Suns, and would never miss the Spurs V. Suns nationally televised contest. After J Rich doubled off the 3 leading to the inevitable dagger via Mason’s corner three, I knew, Terry Porter must be fired! Any coach worth a penny in the NBA knows to beat the message “don’t double off the 3!” into every player on the court during the timeout. There should be no way J Rich had that lapse in judgment because an average coach knows that’s the only thing you MUST DO! And thus, my campaign to get Terry Porter fired began.

It’s now relevant to mention that I love Amar’e. Not in anyway other than he is The Future. He is my favorite Sun. If you are even remotely a citizen of planet orange you know that shortly after the New Year, Amar’e trade talks began… And so did my passionate defense that we didn’t need to trade anyone, we needed a different coach. I started calling into AZ talk radio and making the argument that there was no reason to think Terry Porter would be successful with this team, and we needed someone who actually new how to coach defense and offense. Because Arizona talk radio is filled with primarily idiots reiterating the same boring unsubstantiated claims, and regurgitating the same irrelevant statistics. I decided to take my argument to the ears of men with intellect. I began emailing my favorite sports show; Pardon The Interruption. For weeks I wrote them daily emails claiming that I would be a better sports guy than Tony Riali and that Amar’e should be resigned and Terry Porter should be fired. Finally after weeks, on their segment odds makers, a question was asked. “Who is more likely to end the season with the Suns, Terry Porter or Amar’e Stoudemire?”

It wasn’t long till a whirlwind of national media leading up to and through the all-star game centered on Amar’e’s trade and Porter’s firing. Thank god, finally, Steve Kerr made a wise decision and fired his friend for THE FUTURE! Firing Porter was the best thing Steve Kerr has ever done because it gave the Suns the opportunity to build around Amar’e. All he has to do now is resign Amar’e to a 10-year extension and build around the best offensive big man in the game… Do it Steve!

Challenge Amar’e and it won’t be long till the domain name ifiredstevekerr.com is relevant.

I bet you have never play an organized sport in your life. J Rich is a good athlete but is not the most gifted up stair. Even if Porter told J Rich to double (WHICH HE DID NOT), even you would not double and leave the best 3pt shooter (at that point of the season). You would have been bright enough for that assignment, would you? I bet you think Steve Nash is one of the greatest players in the NBA! Wake up, you have to play Defense for that…… Get your facts before you pick up a pen!

I played organized sports my whole life up until I became a debate nerd. Which means either way here, you are probably out of your league. I just have to say it sounds like you agree with me. J Rich = Awful and Nash = needing to play defense. I think You are right. What facts am I missing?

  3. josh says:

Actually, I got him fired. I had a http://myspace.com/fireterryporter for a long time.

  4. kfleeger says:

Well I think that we may have been the catalyst of one of the most important mid-season moves the Suns have made to date.

    I hate Kobe

  6. kfleeger says:

I can’t deny, I hate Kobe, but mainly because he is the best player in the NBA

Hey…love the site. Conversed with you at boulders yesterday about the future of our mutually loved team. I am looking forward to the suns keying on what its going to take to bring the trophy to PHX. I love amar’e also and I hope he gets the legs back and finds his aggression again. Hopefully Gentry gets a look at your site from time to time and reads the following: Next time your players play like amatuers against a team like the Knicks…punish them. Sit their butts on the bench the entire second half. I would rather see my favorite sports team lose a game and gain some accountability than play the percentages by leaving the starters in. To the creator of ifiredterryporter…..keep up the good work and good luck!

Thank you very much! I will continue to do the best I can. I am pretty confident based on tonight’s play that they read most of the stuff posted on here.

    Kudos. Great site. Go SUNS.

  10. kfleeger says:

Thanks! Just so the other 5 people who comment on here know, Yes, that is my mom’s handle. Yvette. She’s so clever! Thanks for posting Mom! Now if ONLY I could get her to watch the games on T.V. and not just when she gets to go!

  11. Mirza says:

Good stuff dude .. now if we can only get a “When will Steve Kerr finally get fired” site going, that would be awesome ..

  12. Lena says:

    Good Job Kyle,

All I have to say is GO LAKERS!

  13. Jeff says:

Great site!! I just started reading it, so I am just now reading Tim’s B.S. from Oct 23. Thanks for putting him in his place. If Paul Caro ever leaves us, I hope that the AZ Republic takes note and hires you. You certainly know the Suns better than Terry Porter ever did!

  14. kfleeger says:

Hahaha. That was almost the name of the website and would have been if he traded Amar’e last year. I think if he messes up another decision, his website will be off the ground in no time.

  15. kfleeger says:

Thanks a lot! I can’t deny they are the best team in the NBA right now, with the best coach. Tough to argue.

  16. kfleeger says:

It’s great to see you in here talking Suns! When do you want to go to a game?

  17. john says:

Watching the suns v mavs game on dvr right now and it was mentioned that kerr should go for Dirk in the off season. Of course the phrase…”an impossible to get dream team” was dropped. I pose the argument..nay dream…why not? Look at the Lakers with Gasol. I know…I know Dirk is in a whole other league than Pao…however this IS ifiredterryporter.com and you of all people should know it is about grasasroots movement. Maybe a petition is in order. Even Mr. Cuban has his price….of course I may be dreaming but I would be willing to build the trophy case ahead of time for no cost.

  18. kfleeger says:

Well John, I know that you are saying that if we get rid of Amar’e, that Dirk would be an awesome fit. That’s definitely something I bet Suns fans would love. However, the real dream would be pairing Dirk and Amar’e! Woohoo! Now we are dreaming!
