National Spotlight: Hollinger looks at Problems With the Suns… Shocking.
John Hollinger is someone who I disagree with constantly. I constantly berate the national media for not covering the Suns or doing in depth analysis to any teams outside of the Big 3 (Lakers, Cavs and Celtics). I guess it’s fitting that the first article looking REMOTELY “in depth” at the Suns by ESPN is Negative. It costs money to read, but for those of you who don’t have ESPN Insider like I do, here is the basics. I promise, I’m leaving almost nothing not.
Here is the gist of what John says.
The Suns were AWFUL the last two games. - Thanks for the stunning revelation John.
The Suns have played a lot of road games – Wow, John, I am glad I pay to read this stuff.
The Suns have had teams giving them trouble without LB – Honestly, I hope John Hollinger gets a raise for this analysis.
He has quotes from Nash that are actually interesting. Nash points out that the problem with having 17 of 26 games to start the season on the road is that there isn’t ever enough time to be at home and actually practice anything people are doing to try and stop you. Teams recently have had success using defensive switches to stagnate the Suns offense. When they can’t practice how to overcome these changes, it leaves them exposed.
Ultimately, My issue with John Hollinger’s take on the Suns is that, first of all, It doesn’t help us understand in anyway how these Suns are playing as a group. He doesn’t evaluate any players performances or identify reasons or indicators of the Suns success. It doesn’t articulate what they are doing well, other than shooting (not rocket science). I think the only reason Hollinger even wrote about the Suns is to help explain why a team in his rankings could go from 1st to 12th in two losses.
John, next time you write about the Suns, if it’s going to be negative, keep it to yourself, you don’t really have anything interesting to add about the Suns. If this article didn’t have Nash’s intelligent comments about practice, it would be completely useless, as EVERYONE who watches basketball knows, the Suns have had a lot of road games, and will lose if they shoot poorly. WOW. I am shocked 20/20 hasn’t been banging down your door with journalistic opportunities. Leave the Suns to me John, you keep coming up with meaningless statistics that are unmeasurable, and unimportant. Go John!
Go Suns!
I’ll be seeing you Saturday vs. The Kings (The Suns play extra hard when I’m in the building, watch. Maybe, you should write about that John)
