Big Al’s Big Error: Channing Frye Gets TORCHED as Jazz Score 41 in 4th and Beat The Suns!
Because I haven’t been able to get this thought out of my head. I am going to post it, and then revise the post later to include more game detail.
The Suns were winning by 11 going into the fourth quarter. Robin Lopez is NOT in the game. This is mistake 1. Unless you are waiting to put him in with about 8 minutes to go, BAD DECISION #1 Big Al.
J Rich wasn’t defending the 3-pointer, Nash CAN’T defend a 3-pointer, so not having Goran really exposed the Suns lack of perimeter defense… ESPECIALLY in the fourth quarter when it seems the minutes started to catch up to J Rich and Grant Hill.
However, the WORST thing all night was Channing Frye.
I DON’T CARE THAT YOU ARE 6’11 and can shoot a 3. That’s nice! If you could get more than 5 rebounds per 30 minutes! Channing’s interior defense is ATROCIOUS. I have started trying to keep track of how the Suns are performing when Channing enters the game. So far, not so good.
Channing last night, drew 6 fouls in 16 minutes and went 1-4 shooting. HALF OF THOSE MINUTES WERE IN THE FOURTH QUARTER! Channing, PLAY SOME DEFENSE! PUT A HAND UP WHILE JUMPING AT THE SAME TIME!!
The fact remains, that with an 11 point lead- Alvin Gentry decided not to play Ro Lo until 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Suns tied at 100-100.
Why wait until they catch us to play defense? It was obvious the entire fourth quarter that Channing wasn’t playing ANY defense. Channing was subbed out for RoLo from the 3-minute to the 2-minute mark because RoLo commited a flagrant one after being in the game for about 30 seconds in the fourth quarter.
Maybe if RoLo was in the game, making a difference, rather than watching HIS hard work be ruined by Channing, he wouldn’t hit people in the face. Don’t forget, he did smash a giant glass door earlier this season at practice. Don’t be that glass door C.J. Miles.
I say BOOOO to Channing Frye, but he can’t help being the softest 6’11 in the NBA. I am calling Channing Frye “The Big Lullaby”
Alvin Gentry, You can help it. This is the third or fourth time we have yielded leads since RoLo began starting and nearly all of them have been a result of BAD substitutions and sacrificing defense for GOD KNOWS WHAT? What is the benefit of even having Channing in the game in the fourth quarter? He is awful. Tell him he can’t shoot 3′s Big Al and maybe he actually plays a little defense.
Go Suns. Bad Game. Worse Coaching.
I’ve been saying this since fairly early in the season. Anyone who thinks the suns upgraded by getting rid of shaq and adding frye is completely out of their mind. He is the worst rebounding big man in the entire league on a team that already had rebounding trouble. Any small value he adds on offense is negated by his inability to play defense or rebound the ball.
